Since the first commercial PHS system launched in China in 1997,the PHS network developed very rapidly.But with the development of the telecommunication technologies and the competition intensifies,the growth rate of Chinese PHS voice users is slow down,and even falls into decrease cycle in recent years.How to develop current PHS network,to adapt it to the demand of new business growth through technical transformation,is a fatal issue that operators have to face.Data service is the trend for mobile network,it is also the future direction of the PHS network.China' s PHS whether can survive while 3G is coming,and extend its life cycle efficiently,the key lies in data communication capability.The PHS network system with Packet Mode as the core will offer new business growth, and lay a good foundation for PHS evolution to the next generation.The current domestic PHS wireless data service standard widely used is PIAFS (PHS Internet Access Forum Standard),a kind of data communication method based on circuit switch mode,can only provide the data transfer rate of 32kbps/64kbps. Comparing to PIAFS,PHS packet mode data communication has following advantages: Higher data transfer rate;Always on line;Take full advantage of current network resource;Realize various value-added data services and applications.
